... Steve Hopper, Founder & Principal, Inviscid Consulting, LLC
What’s your current job?
I manage a small chain consulting firm I founded, Inviscid Consulting. Our mission is to help businesses plan and streamline their warehousing, logistics, and distribution operations to drive down costs, boost capacity, improve customer service, and mitigate risk.
How long have you been a member of WERC?
I can’t recall the exact year, but I joined WERC in the early 1990s, so it’s been over 20 years. There have been a lot of changes to the industry and within WERC during that time.
What’s your best experience thus far?
My involvement with WERC during all these years has given me so many great experiences, and it’s hard to pick the best one. Through WERC, I’ve met so many great people who are professionals in the supply chain industry. And it was an honor to serve as president of the Atlanta WERCouncil for several years.
What’s your favorite moment of your career so far?
As a consultant, I think the best part of my career has been seeing the results of our work with clients come to life. There’s nothing like seeing my clients benefit from all the data collection, research, number crunching, and planning we’ve done, making all the effort worthwhile.
What was your childhood dream job?
When I was a kid, I was really into rockets, astronomy, and space travel, so I wanted to be an aerospace engineer. Thankfully I "saw the light" when I was at Georgia Tech and majored in industrial engineering instead. This is really where I belong.
Guilty Pleasure: What can you not live without?
The ocean! Every summer our family just has to trek to the South Carolina beaches (Isle of Palms, Pawleys Island, Litchfield, etc.) for some good East Coast waves, powder sand, and Low Country seafood. Can’t beat it!
Outside of work, what do you do that most people in WERC probably wouldn’t know about?
My main personal diversion outside of my career is playing the drums, and I’ve been a drummer since I was six years old. I play regularly at my church and with various local bands whenever I get a chance – mostly classic rock, R&B, funk, blues, and jazz. WERC members and friends in the Atlanta area can see my band, The Falls Brothers Band (www.fallsbrothers.com), at various local watering holes and other events.
Every month WERC spotlights a member who is making an impact in theirprofessional field and around the Association. If you are interested in being highlighted or nominating another member for the spotlight, please contact JoAnna Leon at email@example.com.
