TransCore's latest Spot vs Contract Rates report. TransCore operates the DAT® Network of load boards and facilitates the matching of more than 60 million loads and trucks per year.
Some patterns:
* As a national average, 13% of van lanes had spot market rates above contract rates in Q3. This was a big change from Q2, when 24% of lanes had higher spot market rates.
* In lanes where spot market rates were above contract rates, the average difference was 17 cents/mile (7.7%) in July, 29 cents/mile (13%) in August, and 31 cents/mile (16%) in September.
* When contract rates exceeded spot market rates, the average difference was 40 cents/mile (19%) in July, 38 cents/mile (18%) in August, 31 cents/mile (14%) in September.
