Relationship Dynamics (Atrium Level A703)
In 3PL/shipper relationships, managing relationship dynamics has been essential to success from the very beginning. Most parties have done this intuitively with varying degrees of success. It is when organizations are "intentional" about managing these relationships, with tactics and strategies that work that companies experience greater results. The speakers will address critical relationship dynamics and discuss how to think of managing relationships from a process perspective with "intuition" as a supporting attribute.

Slot Like a Deere: Stealthy, Swift, and Efficient (Atrium Level A706) WAREHOUSING
Every operation, no matter how basic or advanced, can likely improve slotting. This presentation will detail how a large facility slots parts based on a wide range of characteristics, including size, weight, storage container, replenishment frequency and activity. These characteristics drive where and how parts are slotted within the warehouse, while taking into consideration complex and competing goals and constraints. You’ll hear advanced methods for locating parts (slotting) within the warehouse to maximize pick efficiency, reduce travel and improve safety. Learn about the savings gained from using proper slotting methods in a Bin Style or Finger Aisle Pick Path, and the methodology used for determining the slotting strategy.

Results-Oriented Supply Chain Strategy (Atrium Level A706) STRATEGIES
In the environment of increasing focus on overall cost reduction and improved customer service, strategic network optimization is a valuable tool to accurately assess supply chain alternatives. Recent improvements in optimization tools enable companies to create holistic assessments encompassing more than basic transportation data. Lean + Engineered Standards + LMS + Incentives = A Culture Shift that Drives Results! (Atrium Level A706) PEOPLE
Pep Boys was deeply ingrained in department (team-based) incentives, which had driven massive savings over a 10 year+ period. They knew there were additional savings, but not how to get it. In the current atmosphere, individuals were resentful for "carrying" poor performers. The department level benchmarks were also getting difficult to maintain through product mix and business transitions and were becoming increasingly arbitrary based on each site’s historical performances. In January 2010, Pep Boy’s piloted a program of replacing existing UPH targets with discrete standards supported by LIn parallel, accountability programs, coaching tools, and the incentive program was completely redesigned. To best prepare the joint team and site, Pep Boys determined to utilize a Lean Value Stream Mapping to arrive at the procedure on which to base the engineered standards. This case study illustrates how to impact facility safety, quality, and productivity while also impacting the psychology of the workplace for both workers and management.
